General Questions:

Q. What is the pay-back period for a woodfuel heating system?
A. Approximately 3-5 years dependant on the kW of the boiler and fuel product used.

Q. Is there grant funding for this type of installation?
A. There are a number of schemes available for automated Woodfuel Heating Systems, these include grants, 0% interest loans and Enhanced Capital Allowances. A full list of Grants available are available from the Biomass Energy Centre's website.

Q. My current boiler is X BTUs, how do I convert this to kilowatts?
A. BTU divided by 3,411.80 = kW (1kW = 3,411.80 BTUs).

Q. Why would I install a larger hopper rather than a compact one?
A. If you have the space to install a larger hopper, it would allow you buy fuel in bulk and reduce the number of deliveries and resulting costs.

Q. How do I decide which type of woodfuel is right for my premises?
A. You would consider the heat demand for the building, any access restrictions, the local availability of fuel, and the amount of space for fuel storage. We can assist you to make the assessment.

Q. Can I have a woodfuel heating system in a non-rural area?
A. It is possible, but you should seek guidance from local planning.

Q. What is the ideal height for the chimney flue?
A. 6 metres or 5 metres using an exhaust fan (on 10kW-100kW boilers.)

Q. Is clinker (non-combustible material) a problem?
A. No, not with a REKA boiler due to its moving grate floor. The fuel product is constantly turned to ensure maximum burn. There is no clinker in pellets so there are no such issues with Ponast boilers.
